A Palm Beach Icon Reimagined: The Transformation of Winthrop House
A team of Carousel Development & Restoration, Inc., craftsmen are enthusiastically completing the final punch-out phase, encompassing detailed touch-up painting, installation of railings and comprehensive window cleaning of the iconic Winthrop House building bringing the building’s new, elegant Art Deco façade.
Perched at the corner of Worth Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, Winthrop House has been a symbol of timeless Palm Beach elegance since its completion in 1970. Designed by architect Mike Burrows, the eight-story luxury condominium is known for its sweeping ocean views, refined amenities and an exclusive underground tunnel that leads residents directly to the beach.
Now, more than five decades later, the landmark property has undergone a stunning transformation that seamlessly blends coastal sophistication with modern Art Deco flair. The 2025 restoration, led by Carousel Development & Restoration, Inc., introduces a bold new façade, complete with decorative railings, a refreshed color palette and the removal of its traditional brick exterior—ushering in a new aesthetic era for this storied address.
The recent upgrades follow a series of approximately 17 million dollars in renovations that have enhanced the building’s exteriors, further elevating the lifestyle experience for its 122 residents. From sunrise views over the Atlantic to a rooftop terrace offering panoramic vistas of both ocean and city, Winthrop House continues to define luxury living in Palm Beach.
The south side of Winthrop House, facing Hammond Avenue, reveals the building’s original brickwork from 50 years ago. This section is scheduled for completion next season. One swing stage, carrying two Carousel Development & Restoration employees, can be seen suspended in the air as they complete stucco repairs, waterproofing, and painting of the balconies and walls. The scaffolding provides essential access for the ongoing restoration work.
Carousel Development & Restoration, Inc., has maintained a longstanding partnership with the building since 1992, providing ongoing concrete restoration, balcony refinishing, and structural enhancements. The latest overhaul, however, represents the most comprehensive update in the property’s history—one that reimagines its architectural identity while honoring its enduring charm.
As Palm Beach continues to evolve, Winthrop House stands proudly as a bridge between past and present—where classic design meets contemporary style, and the ocean breeze carries the promise of a bright new chapter.
